Stoga Freshman Drop a Close One to Penncrest 9 to 8

It came down to the last play, but Conestoga Pioneers Freshman was on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to Penncrest on Wednesday. The game was tied at eight with Penncrest batting in the bottom of the seventh when Steinbach singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Despite the loss, Conestoga Pioneers Freshman did collect nine hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Penncrest had 16 hits on the way to victory.

Conestoga Pioneers Freshman got things moving in the first inning. After Conestoga Pioneers Freshman scored one run in the top of the second, Penncrest answered with one of their own. Conestoga Pioneers Freshman scored when Nate Empoliti doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Penncrest then answered when Mack grounded out, scoring one run. Conestoga Pioneers Freshman scored five runs in the third inning. Conestoga Pioneers Freshman’s big inning was driven by singles by Matt Mayock (pictured) and Graham Marshall and a walk by Jake Cole.

Aidan Carew was on the hill for Conestoga Pioneers Freshman. He lasted four innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out six. Will Gibbs and Mayock entered the game as relief, throwing one and one-third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.

Zack Zahlaway, Jack Nudy, Marshall, Empoliti, Carew, Shane McCullen, Mayock, Graham Smith, and A Vartanian all had one hit to lead Conestoga Pioneers Freshman. Conestoga Pioneers Freshman was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Zahlaway made the most plays with ten.
